Several places share similar names, the Al Ras and Gold Souq metro stations among them, so the pickup details need to be exact.

Al Ras to and from the airport

Arriving at DXB

Landing at DXB, send the terminal (1, 2 or 3, with Emirates at Terminal 3), your flight number, the landing date and time in UAE time and the hotel or building in Al Ras, with its street or nearest metro station (Al Ras or Gold Souq) so the driver heads for the right end of Deira. We follow the flight status, so a delayed landing moves the pickup. The driver meets you in the arrivals area with a name board, and 30 minutes of free waiting time is included. Some Al Ras properties sit on side lanes, so give us a phone number that works in the UAE in case the driver rings to agree the exact entrance as you get close.

Leaving for your flight

For a flight from DXB, send the flight time, the pickup time you want in UAE time, your hotel and street, and a map pin. Check your airline's own advice on when to be at the airport, then give us the time you decide on. If you have checked out and left bags with reception, tell us, and say how many large cases there are so the driver can plan the loading. If the entrance is on a side lane, mention that too. A return arrival can be quoted at the same time.

Flying from Al Maktoum International (DWC)

Al Maktoum International (DWC) handles flights from Dubai South, near Jebel Ali. Most visitors staying around the souks use DXB, so DWC is the airport to name only when your ticket says so. In that case send the flight number, the date and time in UAE time and your Al Ras hotel or building, and we reply with a quote. Transfers run in both directions, and it is worth checking the airport code on your booking before you write.

Pickup and drop-off tips for Al Ras

Al Ras station or Gold Souq station?

The two names are easy to mix up. Gold Souq metro station is listed on Al Khaleej Road by the Corniche, with a large bus station above it, while Al Ras station is the one listed near the Gold Souk and Spice Souk. If you use a station as your meeting point, say which one, which side you will stand on, and send a map pin from that exact spot.

Small hotels and guest houses

Small hotels and guest houses are listed along Al Ras Street and Sikkat Al Khail Street. Give the hotel name exactly as it appears on your booking, the street and the entrance you will use, and keep your phone on, because the driver may call to find the right lane. If the property sits on a side lane, be ready to walk to the nearest road with your bags.

After a walk through the old quarter

If you have been exploring the heritage lanes, for example around Al Ahmadiya School, do not wait inside them. Walk out to a road with room for a car to stop, such as the Al Baniyas Road side, and tell us the lane you came out of and the nearest named building. A pin sent from the roadside is far more useful than the name of the lane.

Which edge of Al Ras?

Dubai Creek lies along the western and southern edge of Al Ras, and Old Baladiya Street forms the eastern boundary. When you ask for a pickup, tell us whether you will be on the Creek side or the eastern side, and name the road. It is a small district, but its edges are reached from different roads, and naming the side saves the driver a wrong turn.

Heritage visits in Al Ras

Al Ras is one of the oldest communities in Deira. Al Ahmadiya School, founded around 1912, was restored in the 1990s and is now a museum, and a museum for the Nabati poet Mubarak Okaili is also in the district. Visits like these are made on foot, so you finish in the lanes rather than at a car park. Tell us the museum or lane you will leave from, walk to a road where a car can stop, and send a map pin from there so the driver does not have to search the lanes.

Short-stay visitors and couples fit a sedan (Toyota Camry or Nissan Altima class, up to 3 passengers with 2 large bags). Families on a city break usually need an SUV (Toyota Prado or GMC Yukon class, up to 5 passengers with 4 large bags). Groups from a guest house or a small hotel, 6 to 14 people, can share a van (Toyota Hiace class). Tour groups of 15 or more need a mini bus or coach, and a wide road such as Al Baniyas Road makes a better meeting point for it than a lane. Is Al Ras the same as the Gold Souk area?

The Gold Souk and Spice Souk are both in Al Ras, but the district is larger than the souks. Give us the hotel, the street or the metro station, plus a map pin, so the driver goes to the right point.

Which metro station should I name, Al Ras or Gold Souq?

Name the one you will be standing at. Gold Souq is listed on Al Khaleej Road by the Corniche, and Al Ras is listed near the Gold Souk and Spice Souk. If you are unsure, send a pin.

Can the driver collect me from a small hotel on a side lane?
